A Sociomaterial Perspective of the Challenges of Implementing the Communicative Approach in Saudi State Schools

Despite its dominance in the field of teaching English as a second/foreign language, implementation Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) approach continues to be challenging and problematic. A similar set constraints – including but not limited challenges related educational cultures, contextual conceptual factors, lack authentic materials facilities have been reported factors hindering CLT implementations many contexts. learning are crucial elements that found affect communicative language implementation. However, issue how those material can has rarely focus research studies. In this paper, researcher examines effect on teachers’ ability teach communicatively. Thus, informed by sociomateriality paper attends gap literature about curriculum hinder Saudi context. The data examined study were collected through classroom observations semi-structured interviews. analysis findings indicated exerted agency power, communicatively learners’ improve their experiences. report concludes with practical implications complexity development emergent nature such processes webs entangled human/nonhuman relations give rise education.
